Blaming the water supply officials for the water crisis in different parts of Sattari taluka, the Valpoi Congress block committee has threatened to stage a demonstration if the issue is not resolved within eight days.

Members of the Valpoi congress block submitted a memorandum to water supply officials on Tuesday, voicing serious concern over acute water shortage

at Zarme, Charavane, Honda, Dhave and surrounding areas.

Pointing out that residents of Zarme had staged a protest at the Valpoi water supply department on three occasions, in connection with water shortage issues, Congress block committee members blamed water supply officials for failing to resolve the water supply problems in

Sattari taluka.

Confronting the water supply officials, Congress Block Committee President Dasharath Mandrekar said the State government had spent crores of rupees on the Dabose Water Treatment Plant to resolve water supply issues in different parts of Sattari taluka.

He claimed that due to negligence in implementing the 24/7 water supply facility in Sattari taluka, some villages were deprived of water for days at a stretch.

“Zarme village has been facing acute water shortage since the last three months, compelling the residents to stage a protest thrice and yet, their problem has been unresolved,” said Mandrekar.

The delegation, which included Mahila block president Roshan Desai, minority president Harshad Shaikh and Seva Dal President Krishna Nene, warned the water supply department officials to resolve the water supply problems within eight days, failing

which they would stage a protest at the water supply department office.

Later speaking to reporters, Mandrekar said Sattari taluka consists of 12 panchayats and though the government had spent crores of rupees on the Dabose Water Treatment Plant, government officials had failed to resolve the water woes in Sattari taluka.
