"In 2000, he shot at his opponent after losing the elections. He was then lodged at Aguada Jail where he met some Israeli prisoners, who convinced him to believe that idol worship was not correct and that all souls resided in these religious structures like crosses, ghumtis, statues, etc. These souls do all wrong things, because of which they have to be released. The first thing he did after he was relesed from the prison was break the altar in his house," said Parrikar.
The Chief Minister was responding to the calling attention tabled by Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavalekar and Senior MLA Pratapsingh Rane.
Stating that Pereira carried out the desecrations all by himself, Parrikar said the accused had taken police to 113 places of worship which he desecrated since 2003 till the date of his arrest. After he was released from jail in 2003, he began with these activities all alone. He did not take anybody else into confidence. He has turned a vegetarian and did not get into the desecrating act
