Varca-based resident Warren Alemao on Sunday cried foul over the discharge of raw sewage in the Varca creek saying the illegal activity not only poses a health hazard to the villagers but is a nuisance to the visitors to the beach.
Pointing accusing fingers at some hotels for releasing raw sewage into the creek, Warren has demanded that the Varca panchayat immediately conduct an inspection and punish the guilty.
“This is a matter of concern not only for the villagers but for the environment as a whole. After some days the creek will be cleared of the raw sewage by nature when it would find its way into the ocean. Is this the way we are treating our environment? This has to stop immediately,” he said.
Demanding to know why the authorities and the powers that be have not initiated action against the guilty for discharging the raw sewage into the creek, Warren charged that the Benaulim constituency has become a no development zone with no development and action taking place at the ground level.
