Varca murder: Exact cause eludes police

MARGAO
Time is running out for the Colva police to cap the investigations into the cold-blooded murder of 80-year-old Varca resident Trinidade Martins as the Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao, on Monday has further remanded the daughter Jubel Martins to five days police custody.

While Jubel’s seven-day police custody could not help in unravelling the mystery behind her father’s death, the police have five more days at their disposal to achieve a breakthrough in the sensational case.

For, an accused charged in a murder case can be remanded to police custody only for a period of 14 days, before he or she is remanded to judicial custody. Police sources informed that the arrest of the daughter has not helped much to unearth the motive and unravel the mystery behind Trinidade’s death.

The Colva police had arrested Jubel in connection with the murder of her father, but the men-in-uniform are yet to come out with concrete evidence to nail the daughter in the father’s murder.

In fact, investigations into the murder have hit a dead end with the police unable to come out with the exact role played by the daughter in the murder.

The move by the police to get a native of Karnataka for interrogations too has not helped to unravel the mystery behind Trinidade’s death.

Eighty-year old Trinidade, who was staying alone, was found dead inside his house earlier this month after he sustained multiple injuries over his body caused by an iron rod.

While it was suspected that a property angle may be the cause behind the murder, sources said the police could not prove to date how and under what circumstances the deceased was done to death.

Police are still scanning the footage of the CCTV cameras installed in and around the site of the murder.
