A contract murder had almost been executed to perfection and had it not been for a missed bullet and a second gun which did not fire at the second victim, the killers may have escaped unnoticed and unidentified from Ranghavi Estate in Bogmalo.
Sources have revealed that an elaborate plan had been hatched to murder Amar Naik of Vasco, where the victim was duped into believing that he was finalising a property deal in Bogmalo.
According to sources, Yadav and his brother along with their father were into the business of aluminium fabrication at New Vaddem in Vasco some years ago.
“Their father later wound up the business and left for UP some years ago along with his family. Yadav, however, would occasionally visit Goa and meet some of his friends, while his brother decided to set up a business in North Goa and started giving rooms on rent in Anjuna,” said the source.
The source said a woman was into a relationship with Amar Naik for some time, but the relationship was opposed by the woman’s family as they were from different religions. The woman’s brother, who is abroad in a Gulf country, was opposed to their relationship.”
The source said the brother is believed to have casually contacted his friend, Ravi Shanker Yadav, to discuss the issue and asked Yadav if anyone can execute a contract killing.
“Yadav is believed to have agreed to execute the killing and the price was later fixed at Rs 5 lakhs. Yadav later left for UP and met Shailesh Gupta and discussed the plan. Gupta and Yadav later proceeded by train to Mumbai and Gupta contacted the other assailant, Shivam Singh, and the three people then came to Goa,” said the source.
The source said Yadav arranged for their stay at his brother’s rooms in Anjuna.
“Yadav also took the assailants to the place in Bogmalo on a few occasions and hatched a plan to trap Amar Naik in a property deal, by getting the killers to pose as potential buyers from Mumbai.”
“Yadav also arranged the rent-a-car that which would be used by the assailants using ID cards that some customers may have forgotten in the brother’s hotel in Anjuna.”
“With this plan in place, the two assailants contacted Naik some days ago as representatives of a potential buyer based in Mumbai in search of a plot.”
“Naik had shown the two assailants a property near Bogmalo some days ago and the duo said that they may need confirmation from their boss and would get back to Amar Naik.”
The source said on the day of the incident, the duo contacted Amar and said that their boss in Mumbai had agreed and that, they could take the deal to the next level.
“The assailants even went to a local wine shop to buy a few drinks to celebrate the deal. As the discussion later began with Amar at a secluded area, Shailesh Gupta suddenly removed a gun and shot Naik in the head near the Ranghavi Estate,” said the source.
“The assailants then fired a shot at Amar’s friend, Pritesh Kuttikar, who accompanied Amar during the deal, but Kuttikar was lucky to have missed the bullet. They then tried to shoot Kuttikar, but the second gun apparently did not fire and Kuttikar managed to escape from the attack. The assailants then fled from the scene and in their haste to get away, their lost control of their rent-a-car, which veered off the road.”
The killers then abandoned the car, but were nabbed by a police team during a massive manhunt in the wee hours of Friday at Cansaulim Railway station.
