Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Thursday morning conducted a joint inspection of the Tanya ground in Vasco along with officials of the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG), as efforts gather momentum to develop the ground into a comprehensive Sports City complex with multiple sporting and recreational facilities.
The MLA said the joint inspection was part of efforts to assess the existing ground, identify immediate works and prepare for the larger expansion once the additional land is secured.
Salkar said discussions were already underway with landowners and Communidade authorities for acquisition of additional land measuring around 4,500 square metres.
He said the acquisition would take the total area of the ground to around 19,000 square metres, providing greater scope for developing the proposed Sports City.
Salkar said several facilities, including a futsal ground and walking track, could be taken up and made available immediately without requiring a lengthy construction period.
He said volleyball facilities and a cricket pitch could also be developed in a short time, particularly as the compound wall work around the ground has already been completed.
“The futsal ground and walking track can be opened at the earliest. These facilities do not require much time and can be taken up immediately. With the compound wall already completed, we can now move ahead with the next phase,” Salkar said.
