The traditional Vayangani paddy cultivation has begun in Sattari taluka, with Krishna Kopardkar from Maloli, Sattari, starting the cultivation. Despite the decline in paddy production in the area, Kopardkar has been successfully cultivating paddy using the Vayangani method for several years.

Sattari taluka was once known for its abundant paddy production, but the production has declined significantly due to the menace of wild animals. Many farmers have shifted to other crops like cashew, mango, and areca nut.

According to Kopardkar, the Vayangani method of paddy cultivation is a traditional method that yields abundant production. “I have been using this method for several years and have been getting good yields. The Vayangani method is beneficial as it requires minimal weeding and yields abundant production,” said Kopardkar.

The paddy cultivation process has also provided students with a unique learning experience. They are gaining hands-on experience in paddy cultivation, from planting to harvesting.

Notably, farmers feel that the government needs to address the issue of wild animals damaging the paddy crops.

They claimed that the menace of wild animals, especially wild boars, is a major concern and the government should take measures to control the population of wild animals and provide compensation to farmers for the damage caused.
