Heated arguments ensued between the Chimbel Village Development Committee (VDC) members and panchas on the re-inclusion of drainage works proposed under Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP).
At the special gram sabha to approve the GPDP, on Sunday, the VDC members and locals raised objection to the re-inclusion of drainages in the GPDP as they opined that they had already been unanimous in their decision that works on drainages will not be taken up.
However, the panchas got upset over the same resulting in heated arguments between VDC members and the panchas.
Panchas Sandesh Chopdekar and Chandrakant Kunkolkar questioned whether the panchas do not have right to propose works in the GPDP, with both stating that the drainages in their respective wards are a necessity.
However, VDC member Tukaram Kunkolkar said that they are not against construction of drainages but the misuse of the drainages.
“The drainages are meant only for smooth flow of rainwater. But it has been seen in the village that people release sewage and septic waste in the drainages which is the reason why we don’t want construction of new drainages,” Kunkolkar opined.
With the VDC members and locals not in a mood to listen, the panchayat authorities then staged a walkout and chaos ensued.
However, better sense prevailed and the panchayat authorities returned back with a decision taken that the panchayat authorities along with the VDC members will conduct inspection of the areas where drainages are proposed and take a decision accordingly.
Sarpanch Manisha Chopdekar, deputy sarpanch Rosy Uttukuri and other panchas were present for the meeting.
