More than a month after suspending work at Bicholim mines, Vedanta Sesa Goa Iron Ore has informed that it has revoked the suspension order. Meanwhile, workers continued to agitate outside Bicholim mines demanding Ajeetsingh Rane to be recognised by the company as their leader.
Vedanta’s official spokesperson said, “We decided to revoke the suspension of operations after several requests were made from various quarters: employees, villagers, transporters and contractors etc, who are dependent on mining for their livelihood. The management sincerely hopes that wise counsel will prevail upon the employees/workmen and normal operations will continue.”
Bala Khan Gori, secretary, Sesa Mining Cooperation Employees Union, said, “We will go to work only when Vedanta recognises Ajeetsingh Rane as our leader.”
Vedanta had suspended operations at Bicholim mines with effect from October 13, 2016 and even though it has revoked the suspension, it remains to be seen how many workers will go back to work at its Bicholim mines.
