Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) convener, Subhash Velingkar, has alleged political interference in the working of Prabodhan Education Society.
He has accused Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar of interference in the working of the educational society of which Velingkar is the secretary. BBSM has condemned this act of political interference.
The requisition signed by 18 members, including Parrikar and Parsekar, had alleged that Velingkar as secretary had manipulated the records of the society which were falsely represented to the State Registrar that the elections were earlier held in 2014.
“Both Parrikar and Parsekar have signed on a false requisition calling for a special general body meeting to conduct election to the post of chairman, secretary and treasurer. The meeting was held on October 5, 2014 in which the new managing committee for the three-year period from 2014-17 was declared. As these two have signed, the other 16 members were compelled to sign on the memorandum. Of these, three are on the managing committee,” said Velingkar, alleging that this move by Parrikar and Parsekar is to suppress the BBSM agitation. A copy of the minutes of the meeting was also provided by Velingkar to support his statement.
He also alleged that a meeting was called at the official residence of the Chief Minister and the members’ signatures were taken fraudulently by misleading them.
While countering the allegations by stating that the present managing committee is not illegal, he informed that the same members who have signed the requisition were also a part of the general body meeting which was held in 2014, adding that the society has also received approval under the Societies Registration Act.
Nonetheless, Velingkar has also clarified that the school premises is not being utilised for political activities or meetings as alleged in the requisition.
“I have been associated with the institution since 1993. Since then the school building is not used for any political meeting. Instead, Parsekar has held all the BJP meetings in his school premises in Harmal,” said Velingkar.
