Acharya has cited a number of violations by Vedanta as the reason behind this action. Apparently, Vedanta had procured 12,000 metric tons of iron ore lumps in an e-auction conducted in Karnataka. Transportation of ore during monsoon is banned for the safety of public unless it is for domestic consumption. In the light of this, the DMG had allowed Vedanta by granting import and transit permits provided trucks carrying ore are issued entry tickets at the check-post at Mollem and from there trucks movement is monitored by DMG staff. In an order issued, Acharya said, “On July 26, the staff of DMG deputed at Mollem check-post could not find Vedanta s ore laden vehicles at the check-post. Upon enquiry with company s staff, DMG s office was informed that the trucks had entered Goa without regulations/monitoring by DMG and were at PIB plant, Amona.” While granting import and transit permits, DMG had also mentioned that ore thus brought in could be utilized for consumption after it was weighed. Acharya informed that his inspection team found that all trucks had already unloaded material at the plant site without waiting for DMG s officials, which is a stipulation of the terms and conditions of the transit permits.
