With IPB beginning approval of projects in December 2014, the task of generating 50,000 jobs in 5 years seems uphill for the State government as only 407 jobs have been created in close to nineteen months. Industries minister, Mahadev Naik, informed that 7 of the total 99 projects cleared by the Investment Promotion Board (IPB) have started operations till date. This means that 92 projects approved by the IPB are yet to start commercial operations. Naik was replying to a question during the monsoon session of the Assembly. Goa Investment Policy, which had paved the way for IPB in 2014, is aimed at bringing Rs 25,000 crore worth of investment and 50,000 jobs in the State in five years. The seven projects, which have started operations, are Andrew Telecommunications project in Verna Industrial Estate, Varun Beverages project at Arlem, Oriental Containers project at Kundaim Industrial Estate, Siemens project at Verna Industrial Estate, Nestle s project at Ponda, Mandovi Distilleries & Breweries s project at Madkai Industrial Estate and Putzmeister Concrete Machines project at Verna Industrial Estate. Ashton Godinho, chief executive officer, IPB, said, “The projects, which have started operations, are expansion projects. The other remaining approved projects are still at a construction stage. Any manufacturing company requires minimum two years to set up a factory and start operations.”
