Says list will be submitted to AICC gen secy, not GPCC chief

The Curtorim Congress is the cynosure of all eyes as two-time Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco is believed to have finally constituted the Curtorim block panel, but asserted that he would submit the committee names to the AICC general secretary Digvijai Singh instead of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee.

Reginaldo further said that the local Congress leadership cannot have two yardsticks for the finalization of party candidate for Curtorim constituency, reminding the party leadership that he is not only a sitting two-time MLA, but has been a vocal face of the Congress against the BJP in the last four years.

Sources in the Reginaldo camp told The Goan that the Curtorim MLA has almost finalized the block panel, months after he was asked by the PCC leadership led by Luizinho Faleiro to submit names of his workers for the reconstitution of the block.

Reginaldo’s move comes against the backdrop of reports that the Congress party leadership was contemplating on asking the party observer and in-charge for Curtorim, besides senior leaders from the constituency, to recommend names of candidates for the Curtorim seat given that there was no block panel in place till date.

It is learnt that the two-time MLA has filled the panel with his supporters and workers, after completing the exercise of filling the membership forms so as to leave nothing to chance.

While Reginaldo has claimed that he has finally put in place a block panel, he, however, has kicked up another row of sorts. He has decided to submit the names of the block panel to AICC general secretary Digvijai Singh instead of the PCC president. “I had told the AICC observer that I would submit the names of the Curtorim block to him directly. I cannot trust anyone now given that the state of affairs in the Congress party,” Reginaldo told The Goan.

What’s interesting to note is the fact that Reginaldo’s arch political rival and former Chief Minister Francisco Sardinha and other local leaders have already submit their list of names to the GPCC President. “I am in receipt of names of Congress workers suggested by Sardinha and Joseph Vaz long ago. Names suggested by all the leaders will be accommodated in the block committee,” Faleiro said.
