The Cuncolim police have arrested three persons, all brothers from Carxeta-Velim, Shane, Randel and Elvido Fernandes for attempt to murder and for causing grievous injuries to their victims.

Superintendent of Police South Arvind Gawas told the media during the evening briefing that the incident had occurred late Tuesday evening during the traditional ‘Mell’ taken out coinciding with the last day of the three-day Carnival festivities.

“When the Carnival Mell (procession) was on its way on the main road in the market area, a scuffle ensued between the Savio group and the other revelers after the Sarpanch reportedly halted the procession to make way for a vehicle carrying a lady patient.

The arguments and verbal duel between the two sides resulted in the stabbing,” SP Gawas told the media.

Based on the complaint lodged by one Mauvin Fernandes, the police has arrested the three brothers behind the stabbing incident. He said while Savio has been discharged from the hospital, Derrek ‘s condition is stable.
