Maria Barbosa, who stays alone in the house, escaped unhurt despite the tree uprooting on the roof of her bedroom. The house was damaged to a great extent. The neighbours rushed to the site to help.
Velsao-Pale-Issorcim Sarpanch Henriques P Dmello along with Deputy Sarpanch Sylvia D'Souza were present at the site and assured all help to Barbosa. Barbosa said it was only the panch or the panchayat that are contacted during emergency situations.
According to the villagers, the locality, having about 60 houses and about 150 people on the opposite side of the road that leads to the famous Three Kings Church at Cuelim, has no proper roads to cater to cases of emergency for the last many years.
In the last many years, there have been no ambulance, police PCR, fire brigade that can go to the houses in the locality as the only access to get to these houses is a small mud road accessible for only two wheelers. "Sometimes, the villagers find it difficult to attend mass at Velsao Church and during rains we have to walk with shoes holding in our hands," said Barbosa.
