MARGAO
Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas has agreed with the demand raised by the Colva Sarpanch Suzie Fernandes to immediately shut down the toilet block at the Colva for discharging raw sewage into the Colva creek.
Venzy told the media that it is 100 per cent true that sewage from the toilet block is being released into the creek. “We have seen what has been going on there. But, those manning the toilet have been dodging the people. On the contrary, they have been blaming local stakeholders for discharging their sewage into the creek,” he said.
Pointing out that the STP plant of the toilet block has not been functioning, Venzy said there is no mechanism in place to monitor the functioning of these facilities. “Though the STPs are in place, they are not put in operation to save the operational costs,” he said. The Benaulim MLA said he would call on the Tourism Minister with a plea to either shut down the toilet block or convert the facility into a changing room or connect it to the Colva STP plant.
