'Don't take us for granted': AAP warns Cong on delay in naming candidates

MARGAO
Questioning the inordinate delay by the Congress to unveil its candidate for the South Goa Lok Sabha seat, the Aam Admi Party has warned the leadership of its INDIA bloc partner not to take the party for granted.

AAP Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas stressed on the need to field a good, strong, young and dynamic candidate who can lead and resolve the issues of South Goa. Venzy cautioned that fielding a weak candidate will backfire and bring back the BJP to power in South Goa where the party has no standing.

Speaking to the media, the AAP MLA said the Congress should understand that time is running out and the main opposition party needs to come out with the candidate for South Goa.

“We may be the INDIA bloc partner, but we are not their slaves so as to keep us waiting. We need a good candidate, or we will have to take a different call. We know that this alliance is for a bigger cause, but that does not mean that you can do what you want. No doubt, we are genuinely with the Congress, but do not take us for granted,” he said.

He added: “See the date today. The Election code of conduct will come into force during the weekend, but the Congress is yet to finalise the candidate. No doubt, we are partners, but as a partner, we have to point out the wrongs. This is the positive feedback we are giving.”
