Verna plateau has been facing acute shortage of water with industrial units in Verna Industrial estate (VIE) left high and dry for the last four days.
According to sources, the Verna police station is totally out of water supply and is believed to have had water supplied by tankers.
After several units in Verna Industrial estate began complaining about water shortage, the Verna Industries Association through the Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) sent a letter to the Assistant Engineer, Sub Division 1 (PHE), WD IX, Baina mentioning that there was no water supply at Verna Industrial estate.
A letter written by Sanket Faldesai, Field manager, VIE, on Monday, stated that for the last three days, VIE had not received any water supply from the PWD.
"The electricity main sub station is not getting water. Houses situated at Gavaliwada are also not getting water. Industrial units are going dry. In this connection, we (VIE) are receiving a series of complaints from the entrepreneurs and industrial units to supply water atleast for domestic use. You are therefore requested to kindly look into the matter and commence the water supply to VIE with immediate effect," said Faldesai in the letter to PWD.
When contacted, President of Verna Industries Association, Damodar Kochkar expressed bewilderment at the state of affairs of the PWD.
"The PWD has stopped supplying water to Verna Industrial Estate since the last four days because their billing meter is not working," said Kochkar.
A source in the Verna police said that the Verna police station has also been struggling for water.
"We have not had water supply for several days. We find it difficult especially as this is a full-fledged police station with a lock up, canteen and barracks. Water becomes absolutely essential for us. We have now begun using water tankers for our daily needs, " said the source.
