The Calangute Police arrested a Mumbai-based woman for making a hoax call about a ‘bomb’ being planted in a popular restaurant in the beach village of Calangute on Tuesday.
The police later registered an offence against the woman when during the investigation she claimed that she had made the hoax call as revenge against the restaurant after she and her friend had an altercation with a waiter of the restaurant.
According to Calangute PI, Jivba Dalvi, the Police Control Room, Panaji received a call from a woman at around 1.15 am informing that there was a bomb was kept in a popular restaurant along Calangute beach.
Soon after getting the information, Calangute Police rushed to the spot and within minutes evacuated the restaurant.
The quick reaction team of the anti-terrorist squad also was called at the spot.
The services of the bomb disposal squad and the dog squad were also pressed into service and a thorough sabotage check was carried out in the area.
Finally, after a thorough check an all clear signal was given when it was confirmed that there was no bomb planted in the restaurant.
Later PI Dalvi obtained subscriber details of the caller and carried out a thorough check of hotels in the surrounding area and based on the clues, the hoax caller and her friend were traced to a nearby hotel in the area.
During interrogation, the woman disclosed that she had made a hoax call to make the restaurant management suffer losses by shutting it down as she and her friend had an argument with a waiter of the restaurant.
The lady caller has been identified as Rangoli Paresh Patel (23), a resident of Malad West, Mumbai.
Police registered an offence under section 182, 505(1)(b) & 506 IPC and placed the woman under arrest.
The mobile phone used to make the hoax call has also been taken into custody by the police.
Further investigation is in progress.
