Verna police have launched an investigation after sewage waste was reportedly released into a roadside drain along the highway near Old Mardol Restaurant late on Thursday night, creating a possible health risk.

The incident was reported by John Philip Pereira, a resident of Nagoa-Salcete, who stated that around 11.40 pm on October 16, unknown persons had carelessly discharged sewage into the drain. The act led to unhygienic conditions and raised fears of infections spreading in the area.

Police have registered a case under Section 271 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The investigation is being carried out by PSI Carey Fernandes under the supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
