Verna road mishap: Family of deceased suspect foul play

Demand justice, threaten not to take possession of body

MARGAO
Family members of 26-year old deceased rider Royston Borges, a resident of Nuvem, has demanded justice as they have suspected foul play over the action taken by the police in the road accident.

Royston had died in a road accident at Verna near the Agnel Ashram on Sunday midnight. The family members pointed out that though the accident had taken place at midnight, the family was not informed of the accident till 8.30 am on Monday.

They have demanded why the family was not informed after the accident, when injured Royston was brought to the South Goa district hospital and later shifted to the GMC.

Royston’s cousin Freda Borges told the media that the police had named the rider as unknown when Royston was carrying documents such as Aadhaar, Pan card and driving licence on his person.

Demanding justice, the Borges family has threatened not to take possession of Royston’s body till the police mete out justice.

She pointed out that when the police were questioned why the family members were not informed of the accident based on the identity document on the person of Royston, the police said they have no right to touch the documents in possession of the injured. “We have a couple of medical professionals working at the Goa Medical College and hospital. If the police had to intimate the family that Royston has met with an accident, we could have helped to save his life,” Freda said.

Margao Municipal councillor Nimesha Faleiro told the media that the Fatorda MLA  spoke to in-charge of the Verna police station seeking to know why the police has not yet registered an FIR as per the Supreme Court guidelines nor had informed the family members. She said the MLA has threatened to take the matter to the High Court.

Meanwhile, the family has decide to call on the district police chief, South on Wednesday with a plea seeking justice for Royston.
