Saying that vested political interests have misinterpreted the definition of Bahujan Samaj, PWD Minister and MGP leader Sudin Dhavalikar has said that Dayanand Bandodkar’s definition of
Bahujan Samaj includes the toiling working class across the castes and communities, including the Bhat-Brahmins, Saraswats and also Catholic Brahmins.
He also ruled out the question of the MGP’s merger with the BJP, saying in a lighter vein that he is the state’s PWD Minister and continues to represent the MGP.
“Former Chief Minister Dayanand Bandodkar’s concept of Bahujan Samaj was not aimed at excluding certain communities, but it encompasses all sections of the working class, including people belonging to the Bhat-Brahmins, Saraswats and the Catholic Brahmins,” Dhavalikar told the media when his attention was drawn to former Ponda MLA Lavu Mamledar that the MGP has gone into the hands of one family the “Dhavalikars”.
He pointed out that certain political leaders with vested interests are misinterpreting the concept of Bahujan Samaj by trying to exclude certain sections for their ulterior purpose.
Refuting reports that the MGP has been hijacked and has now become the private property of the Dhavalikars, Sudin said the MGP belongs to every member of the party. “Some leader at one time or other has taken the party forward. First it was Bandodkar, then Shashikala Kakodkar, Ramakant Khalap, Dr Jhalmi and Ravi Naik before he headed to the Congress. The MGP is now been led by the Dhavalikars as per the decision of the members. Let me say that all these leaders were groomed and promoted by the MGP at one time or the other,” he said, while reminding that the leader of the party is elected by the members of the party.
MGP committee to take call on
contesting Lok Sabha polls
MARGAO: Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) leader and PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar has said the committee constituted by the party will take a call on the question of the MGP contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
When the media sought to know whether the MGP has shortlisted a candidate for the South Goa Lok Sabha seat, Sudin shot back, “The MGP is in alliance with the BJP. I am a minister in the alliance government. We cannot take a decision on this issue immediately. The MGP has constituted a committee. This committee will take a call and not me,” he said.
