Veteran journalist Sitaram Tengse breathed his last at a city-private hospital on Tuesday morning after a brief illness. He was 85.
The Goa Union of Journalists (GUJ) condoles the passing away of the veteran journalist and GUJ member.
In a statement, GUJ said Tengse started his professional career as a teacher at Shree Nirakar Education Society, Mashem-Canacona, Damodar High School and Adarsha High School in Margao.
It was in 1965 that he gave up teaching and picked up the pen, working as a journalist in Daily Gomantvani. Six years later, he joined Daily Rashtramat as a sub-editor and moved up the ranks as news editor, deputy editor and finally, editor.
Tengse was best known for his hard-hitting editorials.
The Department of Information and Publicity, government of Goa, conferred on Tengse the T B Cunha Lifetime Achievement Award in Journalism for 2020. He has also won the prestigious inaugural Tilak Puraskar for excellence in journalism by the State government and Laxmidas Borkar Memorial Journalism Award.
