Verna Industries Association (VIA) President Damodar Kochkar on Thursday expressed strong concerns over the recent water supply issue which left industrial units at Verna without water supply for over five days.
Speaking to reporters, Kochkar said the industries were suffering while two government departments were at loggerheads. “It appears that there is no understanding between government departments and industries have to suffer. Someone must ask the PWD minister or the GIDC chairman why they cannot repair these damaged pipelines. Why are they holding industries to ransom,” asked Kochkar.
“When the PWD assistant engineer talks about pipeline leakages and meters not working, he must understand that both this works fall under their purview.”
“They (PWD and GIDC) are both government departments and are supposed to facilitate industry and not to hold them to ransom. The PWD should sort out this issue with the GIDC and cannot make industries suffer for reasons like this,” Kochkar added.
It may be recalled that industrial units at Verna were left high and dry without water supply for several days after PWD stopped water supply to the units for over five days.
The GIDC later wrote a letter to the PWD to restore water supply to units at Verna Industrial estates, but the PWD later cited that the water supply was stopped to the units because the pipeline were damaged and water was wasted. PWD also accused the GSIDC of not repairing the damaged water pipeline despite informing them about the repairs for about five months, forcing the PWD to stop water supply to industrial units in Verna.
