Vijai calls for embargo on rented cars, bikes in Goa

MARGAO
The Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai has demanded an embargo on rent-a-car and rent-a-bike on the grounds the owners have failed to make parking provisions but instead park the vehicles on public roads and spaces.

He also came down heavily on the district authorities over the failure to tow away the abandoned vehicles alongside the roads.

“The population of rent-a-cars has increased exponentially over the years as a result of which these vehicles are occupying public roads and spaces for want of parking. The owners of these vehicles have gone for rent-a-cars and rent-a-bikes without making any provision for parking,” he said, demanding an embargo on issuing licenses for such vehicles.

Taking strong exception to vehicular parking on the roads in Fatorda, Sardesai said the police should come down heavily on vehicles parked on the roads in the constituency.

“I am more than willing for Artificial Intelligence to crack a whip on vehicular parking on the roads. We have not widened and hot mixed the roads for vehicular parking,” he asserted.

The Fatorda MLA further urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to deputy traffic personnel to the Fatorda police station to regulate traffic and book the violators.

“In a constituency with a population of 40,000, we have only seven traffic personnel to regulate traffic. I hope the Chief Minister will take cognizance of the situation,” he added.
