Mooting Plan B to meet any emergency situation at Sonsodo in the event of abdication of responsibilities by the parties to the Concession agreement, Deputy Chief Minister Vijai Sardesai on Friday unveiled plans to rope in an Mumbai-based expert to put a contingency plan in place to overcome the situation.
He has promised to address the waste problem within the next 24 hours, saying Margao municipal workers on the job to lift all waste lying at
the transfer station and
roadsides.
“Presuming that there is further abdication of responsibilities by the two parties to the Concession agreement, the Margao Municipal Council and Fomento, we have to put in place Plan B and we are working in that direction,” Sardesai told the media on the sidelines of a programme at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao
on Friday.
Without unveiling the details of the Plan B, the Deputy Chief Minister only said that experts, who have faced much bigger issues than Sonsodo outside the State will be roped in immediately to work out the contingency plan. “The Plan B is nothing but a fall back option in the event the two parties to the Concession agreement abdicate their responsibilities,” he added.
The Deputy Chief Minister warned that no attempt should be made to give a colour to the waste management situation, making it very clear that the situation cannot be termed as his failure. He said the Concessionaire was brought to Sonsodo during the Congress rule when Digambar Kamat was the Chief Minister.
Saying that everyone seems to have abdicated their responsibilities on the issue, Sardesai said Fatorda was rotting when he was away from Goa for four nights and days. “The two parties seemed passing the buck on each other. This is not acceptable. I would like to advice the media as well not to create a panic situation in the city,” he said, while promising to put things in order within the next two days.
Saying the government is not scared in fighting the issue head on, Sardesai said the government is clear that the unsegregated waste lying inside the plant will be carted away during the next 24 hours.
“I would like to assure the people that everything concerning garbage should fall in place during the weekend,” he added.

MARGAO: Wondering why Margao MLA Digambar Kamat is maintaining stoic silence on the garbage issue facing the city, Deputy Chief Minister Vijai Sardesai said the Margao MLA should take interest in getting segregated waste from the households in Margao constituency, issuing a veiled warning that unsegregated waste from the city will not be accepted at the waste treatment plant.
“I have found that Margao MLA Digambar Kamat is quiet on the issue. He cannot run away from the issue. As he is a MLA representing Margao constituency, Kamat should take interest to get segregated waste from Margao households,” Sardesai, said, while warning that unsegregated waste from Margao will not be collected in the future.
