Vijai pulls up Cong over failure to honour Opinion Poll stalwarts

Says Chodankar too engrossed with TCP

MARGAO
With the government appearing to be all set to inaugurate the Opinion Poll square on January 16, Goa Forward Party chief and TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai has demanded to know from Congress leaders why they did not recognize and honour the Opinion Poll stalwarts during their long rule in the state, as he launched a vitriolic attack on AICC Secretary Girish Chodankar for his comments on the coconut shortage.
"I have been told that the Congress has planned a function at the Mapusa office. This is not enough. If they have the guts, they should cone on the roads and tell why they did not recognize the Opinion Poll stalwarts", Sardesai told the media on the sidelines of a job fair at the Ravindra Bhavan on Friday.
"The Congress leaders should tell the people of Goa what have they done all these years to honour the Opinion Poll stalwarts and I am ready to unveil what I have done during a short time", he added.
Taking strong exception to the statements made by AICC Secretary Girish Chodankar on the coconut shortage and the insinuations that he has been devoting more attention to TCP than the Agriculture department, Sardesai said he is not bound to reply to people such as Chodankar, who has nothing in his head to talk on such issues.
"Girish talks about a conspiracy to kill the coconut and convert land into settlement zone after I favoured import of coconuts form Sri Lanka. The government was exploring various options to reduce the coconut prices. One option was to import coconuts from Sri Lanka given that country weak currency", he said.
