MARGAO
Goa Forward Party chief & Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Sunday sent out a stern warning that he will not keep quiet and watch all those responsible for stopping the parking plaza project from coming up in Fatorda.
Saying he is responsible for getting the sanction for the project during his stint as a minister, Sardesai said Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and his handpicked Margao Municipal Chairperson Damu Shirodkar should stop putting spokes in the wheels of the parking project.
“What right has the Margao Municipal Chairperson got to stop work on the parking project when the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) has given a work order to the contractor after complying with the tender formalities,” he questioned while issuing a warning that he would not keep quiet but will expose all the wrongdoings in Margao.
Referring to Kamat’s stand that the MMC has stopped the work since the civic body wants to assess the revenue loss by way of sopo from the parking land, Sardesai asked: “What revenue loss is Kamat talking about when sopo cash from the MMC is being robbed in broad daylight under the nose of the ruling body.”
He said the parking plaza was being proposed not just to resolve the parking woes of Fatorda but of the entire Salcete. “The parking lot will help people of the entire Salcete to park their vehicles and catch a bus at the KTC bus stand. If the BJP is hell-bent on stalling the project, the people of Salcete will teach the ruling party a lesson in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls,” he warned.
Blaming the Margao MLA for trying to scuttle the project just because the people had laid the foundation stone when he was on a vacation, the Fatorda MLA said: “We will not let egos come in the way of public projects. We are ready to accommodate Kamat’s name on the project once it is completed and commissioned.”
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a programme held to launch works at Dongorwaddo in the Fatorda constituency, Sardesai demanded to know the status of Sonsodo since the time the Margao MLA made repeated visits to the site after joining the BJP.
He said the Margao MLA is also responsible for getting the controversial e-rickshaws at Rs eight lakh presently lying in the garage. He also blamed the Margao municipality for putting the lives of motorists to risk by not reviving the traffic signals installed in Fatorda through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
