North Goa Principal District & Sessions Judge Irshad Agha has said village courts will play a key role in delivering justice to the doorsteps of people in rural areas.
He was speaking at Valpoi after launching a Village Court (Gram Nyayalaya) in the presence of Valpoi Magistrate Judge Wasim Rizvi, Sattari Lawyers Association President Yashwant Gawas, Senior Advocate Rajan Savaikar and Secretary of North Goa District Legal Services Authority Shantashri Sinai Kudchadkar.
In his address, Judge Agha said citizens have to face many problems in the process of seeking justice and a Village Court will help in expediting cases in the village itself.
Judge Agha said the work of the Village Court will be conducted in the administrative building of Valpoi Municipal Council. He added that the vehicle of the Village Court will go around villages on the first and third Saturday of the month, to try and resolve cases.
Stating that the concept of a village Court was set up in 2008, Judge Agha informed that there are 476 Village Courts in different parts of India.
“Thousands of cases have been settled through these Village Courts and citizens have greatly benefited from these courts,” Judge Agha said.
Sattari Lawyers Association President Yashwant Gawas said the Village Court will definitely benefit people in rural areas.
