In a unique initiative to help the children of poor families who are struggling and unable to study online for want of mobiles, Carmona Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge gifted away two smartphones donated by anonymous well-wishers eager to help in this situation.
Two families with six kids were using a single mobile for their online classes. This additional mobile will now help them in their studies, he said.
Jorge said there are many such families who are suffering with no mobile gadgets. Adding to this, he said the mobile connectivity is a major issue.
“Although the government has made online education mandatory there is no study done if all the enrolled children have access to mobile phones. Schools and panchayats can provide free wifi and internet facilities to the kids. Today the online system education has divided the rich and the poor,” he said.
It is the government’s duty to ensure every kid has access to internet as the right to education is a fundamental right of every citizen, he added.
“This initiative will be a continuous one as more people have shown readiness to help and support children who do not have access to mobile phones,” he added.
