Villagers block road to Saleli waterfalls
The road leading to the waterfalls at Saleli blocked by locals.

VALPOI

Locals of Saleli village in Honda Panchayat area yesterday blocked the roads leading to the Saleli waterfalls. They say that the government authorities were not taking action to stop visitors from coming to the area, despite villagers' fears of an upsurge of Covid.

As a result, a large number of visitors were forced to end their trip and return home. Locals allege that the government has been ignoring their demand for a similar ban this year as was done last year during the first wave of Covid.  It has been revealed that a large number of tourists have been visiting the falls on Saturdays and Sundays for the past two weeks. This has led to strong opposition from locals.

During the monsoon season, the waterfalls in Sattari taluka are a sight to behold. Due to this, a large number of tourists visit this waterfall.

It may be recalled that two years ago, a drunken tourist's jeep overturned at the site of a waterfall, causing a major accident.
