Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Sunday said he has recommended suspension and a detailed probe into the functioning of a doctor attached to the ID (infectious diseases) Hospital at Ponda, Dr Reuben De Sousa, following "several complaints" from patients.
Rane said he has asked Health Director Dr Geeta Kakodkar to put up the file for De Souza's suspension and also to set up the probe.
"I have received several complaints from patients about Dr Reuben De Souza who works at ID Hospital in Ponda. I have instructed Director of DHS Dr Geeta Kakodkar to submit a file to the Under Secretary of Health for the suspension of the aforementioned doctor," Rane said in a tweet.
In another tweet, he added: "There will be a thorough investigation, and if found guilty, he will be dismissed from government services."
Rane, however, did not elaborate on the nature of the complaints from patients against Dr de Souza.
