CANACONA

Roads leading to Canacona beach were clogged on Saturday evening, as visitors rushed to the coastline to witness and capture memories of the last sunset of 2016.

A large number of visitors remained glued to the horizon at Palolem, Agonda and other beaches, with many directing their lenses to capture the last sunset of the year.

The sun began to descend beyond the Arabian Sea by 6.10 pm and while many left the site, other visitors continued to remain at the beach to usher in the New Year along the shores of Goa.

The heavy presence of visitors at the beaches led to traffic congestion along the narrow roads leading to the beaches.

Vehicles from various states and across Goa were seen proceeding to the beaches in Canacona taluka and the heavy rush of vehicles left the police struggling to regulate traffic throughout Saturday.

Police teams also increased security checks on most vehicles, while a nakabandi was imposed at a few entry points.

With the main road at Palolem getting clogged at regular intervals, police made parking arrangements at the entry point of Polem and the open spaces were turned into makeshift parking lots. Let with no option, visitors were inconvenienced and had to walk some distance to reach Palolem beach.

Accommodations were fully booked on Saturday and it was virtually impossible for tourists to seek rooms in any part of Canacona's coast.
