MARGAO
Even as the services of the Margao Urban Health Centre will be shifted to the old Hospicio building on Monday after the collapse of the wall of the urban health centre building, visitors will have to contend with an “unsafe” building inside the Hospicio complex.
The “unsafe” building inside the old Hospicio building is located right adjacent the premises, which will house Margao Urban Health Centre services, throwing up serious questions why the three-storeyed building declared unsafe a couple of years ago, has not been razed down till date.
In fact, when the Health Director Dr Geeta Kakodkar inspected the old Hospicio building along with PWD officials, she came across barricades around the old building. Inquiries have only revealed that the building was declared unsafe when a dialysis unit was housed inside the building.
PWD officials seemed to have no idea whether any proposal was moved by the government to raze down the unsafe building or whether any plans were mooted to rehabilitate the same.
