In a determined bid to resolve the growing traffic congestion in Valpoi, the Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) has decided to implement an elaborate traffic plan for the municipality for a month on a pilot basis.
“This plan will be implemented within four days of publishing the public notice in the media,” said VMC Chairperson Parveen Shaikh who addressed a news conference in the presence of Chief Officer Dasharath Gawas.
Briefing reporters about the plan, Shaikh said a revised traffic plan was a long-pending demand of the public, given the increase in traffic and the limited space in the heart of the town.
“We have observed that repeated traffic congestion in the town, especially during school hours, has caused considerable hardships to people. The VMC had passed a resolution two months ago to work out a traffic plan for Valpoi town and it has now been decided to implement this plan for one month on a pilot basis,” said Shaikh.
The chairperson appealed to the people to cooperate with the revised traffic plan, adding that suggestions would be taken into consideration during the one-month phase.
“After taking suggestions in consideration, the plan will be modified if necessary,” Shaikh added.
Gawas said VMC had decided to go ahead with its revised traffic plan and appealed to the public to cooperate with the new arrangements. “Necessary modifications will be made if inconvenience is faced during the implementation of traffic plan,” said Gawas.
