Getting the indelible ink marked on their left index finger is a general practice during elections, but some confusion prevailed as voters at a polling booth in Quepem town found that the indelible ink was being marked on their right index finger by election officials.
This incident took place at polling booth 4 in the office of the Land Survey department in Quepem town, as voters queued up to vote on Tuesday.
Before they could proceed to the electronic voting machine, voters were surprised to find that the election staff was marking their right index finger, instead of the left index finger, with the indelible ink.
This unusual act led many voters to suspect a conspiracy, but no official complaint was lodged in the matter.
One voter, Dr Umesh Netravelkar of Quepem, was clearly unimpressed and said: “This is a biggest goof-up I have ever seen and the election officer should be held responsible for this.”
Apart from this incident, polling took place peacefully and without any untoward incident in Quepem and Curchorem constituencies.
Although the flying squad received calls that some elected representatives were seen moving near some polling booths in a bid to influence voters, no official complaint was registered with election authorities.
