CANACONA
Voters going to the polling booths could be barred from exercising their franchise at elections to the Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) on Saturday, if they violate the Covid-related protocols.
According to Assistant Returning officer Vimod Dalal, voters without facemasks will not be allowed to enter polling booths to vote.
“Voters will have to strictly adhere to social distancing and anyone found approaching the polling booths without wearing a facemask will also be fined Rs 200. A special team of talathis has been formed to impose the fines,” said Dalal.
Election authorities have also put up display boards on Covid-19 precautions to be enforced at all 12 polling stations in Canacona municipality.
“Authorities are fully geared up to conduct elections in a free and fair manner. Each of the 12 booths are deputed with 5 staff and two policemen,” added Dalal.
As many as 10,157 voters will be eligible to cast their votes at the 12 polling stations in the municipality.
Polling stations will be at Shri Mallikarjun Vidyalaya, Char-Rasta (Ward 1), GPS Chaudi (Ward 2), Shri Mallikarjun College (Ward 3), GPS Mastimoll (Ward 4), GPS Mangan (Ward 5), GPS Ponsulem (Ward 6), GPS Kindlebhag (Ward 7), GMS Patnem (Ward 8), GPS Sawantwada (Ward 9), GMS Eastwing Palolem (Ward 10), GMS Palolem West Wing (Ward 11) and GMS Palolem North Wing (Ward12).
