Decrying that the panchayat polls were far from free and fair, St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar said that money and muscle power was in full view in his constituency.
But at the same time, Borkar remained hopeful that the people would not fall prey to the greed of money, and teach such candidates a lesson just like they had done while electing him at the Assembly elections.
“Money and muscle power was used, particularly in the wards where Revolutionary Goans have fielded its candidates. But I am pretty sure that our candidates will emerge victorious just like me as people are smart enough to do the right thing,” MLA Borkar informed.
“The villages need to be saved from the clutches of the greedy as it is because of the greed that money and muscle power gets used,” he added.
When questioned on the panchayats where RGP is likely to get majority of candidates elected, Borkar said that in Azossim-Mandur, Batim and Curca there are high chances for RGP candidates.
"But our candidates are also going to give tough time to the opponents in Siridao, Goa Velha and Agassaim," Borkar added.
Meanwhile, Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai reiterated that panels floated by him would wrest control of all seven panchayats in his constituency.
When questioned by The Goan, Faldessai said, “I have total confidence that majority of candidates from my panel will emerge in all panchayats. There is no doubt about that.”
