VVA Sr Secondary section bags 'IT Quest Excellence 2016' award

Vidya Vikas Academy Senior Secondary section, Tansor, Comba, Margao, won the State-level IT quiz 'ITQuest Excellence-2016,' organised by Shree Damodar College of Commerce and Economics Margao, held on January 8.
A press release issued by the organisers informs that the objective of the quiz was to offer students a fusion fest with a Sci-tech flavour blended with a test of Information Technology know-how.
The quiz was held in two categories - Beginners - for higher secondary students and Advanced - for under graduate students. There were two rounds, preliminary round which was based on Information Technology, General Knowledge and current affairs and the final round, which was based on participant’s knowledge of subject matter.
The student team of Tarun Mascarenhas and Julian D’Costa of Vidya Vikas Senior Secondary emerged as the winner with a good margin of points and was awarded the rolling trophy, winners trophy and certificates. The runner-up team was presented with the runner-up trophy and certificates and other participants were given participation certificate.

Offence registered for extraction of laterite stones

The Cuncolim police have registered an offence against three persons, who are suspected of having illegally extracted laterite stones in an area of around 600 square metres in Naqueri “ Betul of Quepem taluka.
According to Cuncolim police, the offence was registered based on a complaint lodged by the technical assistant director of Mines and Geology in this regard. Acting on this complaint, Cuncolim police registered an offence against the three persons - an operator of the JCB, Manoj and Anton, for their suspected involvement in this incident.
Cuncolim police said that prior to the incident, a joint inspection of the site was carried out by the complainant along with Quepem mamlatdar and survey officials.
Cuncolim police have registered an offence under Section 379 r/w 34 of IPC and Section 3 r/w 62 (1) (2) of Goa Minor Minerals Concession Rules, 1985.
