Tiracol land 'fraud' report submitted

PANAJI

Sandip Jacques tasked with conducting an inquiry into allegations of land fraud and fraud on the tenancy Act at Tiracol has submitted his report to the government.

Sources in the government disclosed that the inquiry report has been handed over to Anju Kerkar, the under secretary in the revenue department.

The contents of the report have not yet been made public with the sources informing that the report will he handed to the court.

The government of Goa had notified the appointment of Sandip Jacques an officer of the Goa Civil Service and currently as the Executive Director of the Sports Authority of Goa in September last year to hold an inquiry and function as a fact finding authority in matters connected with the Tiracol golf course.

Jacques was given the powers of a mamlatdar or agricultural land tribunal under the Goa, Daman and Diu Agricultural Act.

Jacques was tasked with looking into allegations that Leading Hotels India’s project coming up purchased tenanted agricultural lands and then converted them for non-agricultural purpose. Jacques had the power to look into whether the land in question as referred in the public interest litigation writ petition filed by the Goa Foundation and the Tiracol St Anthony’s Tenants and Mundkar’s Association were agricultural lands and/or tenanted lands, and whether the allegations regarding tenancy made in the petition as regards tenanted lands are true and correct, and whether the lands are or are not tenanted lands and whether any person was or was not a tenant of such lands.
