Wall on beachfront: Siridao p'yat calls off inspection as complainant absent

OLD GOA
The Siridao panchayat called off the inspection of wall construction on the beachfront as the complainant remained absent on Thursday.

The inspection was slated after the complainant had complained about the construction of the wall by unknown persons close to his house.

It may also be recalled that on Wednesday, a large number of Siridao locals had objected to the construction of the wall on the beachfront as it blocked the view.

Speaking to The Goan, Sarpanch Suvarna Kuncolienkar informed that they are calling off the inspection as the complainant remained absent.

“We cannot go ahead with the inspection in the absence of the complainant,” Kuncolienkar stated but added that the panchayat had also inspected the beachfront development undertaken by GTDC as villagers had raised objections to the construction of the wall.

“We are going to meet with the GTDC officials to ascertain whether there is construction of the wall in the plan submitted to the panchayat,” the sarpanch stated.

When questioned further, the sarpanch informed that the panchayat had only given an in-principle nod to the GTDC subject to the condition that necessary approvals be obtained from the authorities concerned.

To a question whether the GTDC has got approval from GCZMA since the area falls under CRZ, the sarpanch said that the panchayat has not received any such permission.

It was also noted that no board was installed at the site citing the permissions availed for the beachfront development.
