Speaking at Congress House, Faleiro stated, “Introduction of yoga in the curriculum is welcome. But the suggestion that Ramdev should be allowed access to our schools for setting up yoga classes should be opposed. This shouldn’t be permitted in the view of his sectarian approach.”
The Congressman further requested the Chief Minister to ensure that introduction of value education in school curriculum is done in a supervised manner so as to ensure that only secular values are passed on to the young minds.
He pointed to the dearth of adequate classrooms, teachers, free uniforms, text books and other educational material available at the government primary schools in the state and called upon the state government to maintain a high quality and standards at the government-run schools.
Faleiro further demanded the reinstatement of the Purshottam Kakodkar memorial lectur at the Goa University while also voicing the need for reprinting of ‘Goa’s freedom struggle’, a compilation of the selected writings of T B Cunha which were published in 1961. “The book should be introduced in schools and colleges so that it provides the much-needed sense of direction to our society,” he said.
