PWD Minister Digambar Kamat’s intervention has helped mitigate the waste crisis to some extent, with the MMC lifting waste that had accumulated on the parking ground. Although the area continues to remain dirty and emits a foul stench, waste collection by the civic body has reportedly improved following the Minister’s inspection.
However, garbage continues to accumulate along the periphery of the market complex, from the fish market shed to the area opposite the meat stalls, indicating that a lasting solution remains elusive.
A visit to the mega retail market on Thursday evening found that the stench persisted at the PDA parking ground despite the removal of the earlier garbage dump, which had become a common sight before the Minister’s intervention.
The authorities, however, appear to have failed to find a solution to the continued dumping of waste along the boundary of the market complex, leaving the market looking increasingly unsightly.
