Concerted efforts by the PWD bore fruits as treated water supply was finally supplied to taps at Shelpe village on Monday evening.
The recent incident of many residents from Shelpe-Nagargao falling ill and the finding that they were consuming water contaminated in local water bodies on account of open defecation and poor water supply had led authorities to work overtime to resolve the issue.
The PWD had assured villagers to fulfill their demand of treated water supply from the Dabose treatment plant before November 1 and managed to meet the deadline.
Since Shelpe is located at a height, water could not reach the village. Water treated from the Dabose plant has now been extended to Shelpe village through multiple booster pumps.
The installation of booster pumps at various locations was completed on Monday morning and the pumps were tested.
"The pipeline supplying water to taps in Shelpe was flushed to remove the dust on Monday evening for over three hours and fresh treated water was supplied to taps," said Water Supply Assistant Engineer Eknath Paste.
"Now, people of Shelpe will receive treated water directly from the Dabose treatment plant. Within the next two days, everything will be normal regarding the supply of treated water and water tankers will be discontinued," he added.
Vithal Gawas and other residents thanked authorities for their tireless efforts for the past 15 days to provide treated water to Shelpe village.
Nagargao Sarpanch Parag Khadilkar also expressed happiness that Shelpe village finally received treated water after several years.
