Water pipeline damaged, supply to Mapusa may be affected

MAPUSA
The rupture of the main water pipeline that supplies water to Mapusa is expected to further rub salt as residents were already facing water scarcity for the last few days.

A 350 mm water pipeline was damaged while executing the NH-66 expansion work near Binani at Colvale at around 3.30 pm on Saturday.

“This is possibly the eight time the MVR Infra Pvt Ltd has disrupted our pipeline at the highway stretch from Colvale to Guirim,” a PWD official informed.

Earlier on several occasions, the water pipeline was damaged in Colvale, Carrasvaddo and Guirim and every time, the PWD repaired the pipeline.

PWD Executive Engineer (water) Nitin Neurekar officer informed that the pipeline was expected to be restored late tonight, but residents of Mapusa could get limited supply at least for a day.

“The repair work is on and we expect the pipeline to be repaired late in the night. Some areas in Mapusa could get limited supply,” Neurekar informed.
