Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar has instructed PWD officials to release 12 MLD water from the Chandel water project for six hours to Pernem constituency and another six hours to Mandrem.
Arolkar was interacting with officials at the Pernem Government Rest House after acute water shortage has hit Mandrem constituency, with households deprived of water supply for several days.
Arolkar asked the officials to submit a work report by October 18.
The officials pointed out to fluctuation in power supply and blamed erratic electricity for the water scarcity.
Currently, a new 30 MLD water project is being constructed on a war footing and after the completion of this project, people in Pernem are expected to 24-hour water supply.
Morjim Sarpanch Surekha Shetgaonkar stated that the water problem is getting worse by the day.
“Locals blame the panchayat, but the government should look into the matter and supply water at least for six hours, if not 24 hours,” she said.
