We told police every Goan is leading agitation: Activists

MARGAO
Anti-coal and track-doubling activists Abhijit Prabhudesai and Sandesh Talekar, who were summoned by the Maina-Curtorim police on Friday morning, said they told the police in no uncertain terms the ongoing anti-coal agitation is spearheaded by any individual, but every Goemkar, who is a leader in his own right.

After the duo came out of the Maina-Curtorim police station housed in the district police headquarters at around 11.30 am, Abhijit informed, “The police sought to know who is leading the anti-coal agitation. We told them every Goan is leading it. We we them that more than half the village panchayats in Goa constitute the leaders since they have adopted resolutions against coal and other projects. We also told the police that many NGOs and communities are with the movement and they too are the leaders”.

Sandesh Talekar on the other hand said he questioned the police for registering the FIRs against six persons and spared the political figures, including the present and past MLAs, who too had participated in the Chandor night vigil.

“The police officer sought my identity, but I refused to show it. When we questioned why no FIR was registered against the MLAs present at the Chador agitation, the police officer remarked that they know us better than the politicians.”

While saying that he has refused to disclose his identity, claiming that the

police are free to arrest the activists, Talekar dared the government to arrest the people agitating against the controversial projects.
