BELAGAVI
Visitors from Goa will be discouraged from travelling to Belagavi till May 4, as government authorities have enforced a lockdown and have allowed only essential goods and services to operate.
The Karnataka government on Wednesday issued fresh guidelines to contain the Covid-19 transmission, imposing a night curfew from Monday to Friday and a weekend lockdown from Friday night to Monday morning.
The government in its order had clearly mentioned which establishments and services would remain open and which would have to be closed during the 14-day mini lockdown.
However, assuming that the night curfew meant the closing of shops and business establishments before 9 pm, several showrooms and malls in the city were opened on Thursday morning.
This angered the authorities and they got into action and started closing showrooms and malls in the city, causing confusion among traders.
Providing clarification, police officials said the government order had clearly mentioned that except for essential goods, grocery shops, medicals and other essential services, other establishments would remain closed.
Moreover, the Karnataka government has also imposed a weekend curfew and the market will be totally shut down from Friday night to Monday morning.
Besides, movement inside the city has also been restricted.
With the shutting down of showrooms, malls and markets in the city, Goans may be discouraged from travelling to Belagavi for their weekend breaks.
