Quepem MLA and Congress candidate Chandrakant (Babu) Kavalekar claims he will win by a margin of about 7,000 votes, while BJP candidate and former MLA Prakash Velip insisted the anti-Congress wave will hamper Kavlekar’s chances of winning.
Kavalekar told The Goan that he will win by a margin of about 7,000 votes.
When asked to justify his claim, Kavalekar said: “People of various communities and faiths are with me. Congress volunteers and supporters worked day and night to secure votes for me.”
Kavalekar, however, admitted that there was some anti-Congress wave, but claimed that people were even more frustrated with the BJP government and wanted a candidate who could unite them and undertake overall development of the constituency.
“I was hoping that I will get enough time to campaign, but due to the short time, I got held up in six panchayats and the municipal area for campaigning,” he added.
On the other hand, Quepem BJP candidate Velip said the people of Quepem were fed as there was no development in Quepem. “Kavlekar had no vision to carry forward development in Quepem,” said Velip.
The BJP will win in Quepem due to the anti-Congress wave. BJP supporters and volunteers should be given full credit for their grassroots campaigning throughout the constituency. I will win by no less than 2,500 to 3,000 margin of votes,” he added. Joao Fernandes (AAP), Charles D’Silva (GSP) and Sudesh Gaude (MGP) are the others in fray.
