Who will find favour with the BJP for the Canacona seat in the next Assembly election with the three key players “ incumbent MLA Isidore Fernandes and former MLAs Ramesh Tawadkar and Vijai Poi Khot all in the ruling party after last week’s political development?

When this question was posed to Ramesh Tawadkar who had returned to the BJP fold earlier this year after rebelling against the party in the 2017 Assembly election, the former Sports Minister shot back “let three candidates vie for the ticket. There’s no harm.”

When the media further drew his attention to the fact that MLA Isidore is on record saying that he would seek re-election from Canacona in the next Assembly election, Tawadkar reminded that politics is dynamic, with

changes taking place at a

fast pace.

He, however, reminded that he had welcomed Isidore’s entry into the party last week in the interest of Canacona and the people.

He also parried a query when asked whether the BJP leadership had promised him a ticket to contest the coming Assembly election on the Lotus symbol, saying such questions will come into play on the eve of the election

“I had never set my eyes on election and positions. I have worked as a social activist and will continue to play my role in the society,” he added.

To another query, Tawadkar said that the BJP had committed a mistake by not nominating him for the Canacona seat. “Since I and my workers were aggrieved by the party decision, we had decided to leave the party,” he said.

While welcoming the government decision to take the 10 Congress MLAs in the BJP, Tawadkar pointed out that it was a known fact that the alliance partners were all blackmailing the government, affecting the government functioning and the stability.

“I need not name the persons who were blackmailing the government. The alliance partners were playing blackmailing tactics which had affected government functioning,” he added.
